Artemis Program Progress in 2023 + Will the Moon Landing Get Delayed?
It's been more than a year since Artemis 1. Where does the Artemis program as a whole stand at the end of 2023?
This video will briefly go over Artemis 1 and some lessons learned, but also the crew selection and training for Artemis 2 and the current status of hardware for that mission.
Finally, this video will also discuss potential changes to the program, changes that could shape the future of Artemis.

NASA Rocket Train: SRB segments for Artemis 2 being transported to Florida
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.7 месяцев назад
The SRB segments for NASA's Artemis 2 Space Launch System are being transported to Kennedy Space Center. The train carrying the segments went through Lawrence, Kansas, at around 7 p.m. CDT Sept. 21, 2023, on its way to Florida from Utah a 2,800-mile journey. The lead locomotive was Union Pacific's No. 1943 "The Spirit." The journey started Sept. 19, and takes about a week to complete. The railc...
Why is everyone rushing to the Moon?

How about taking just ONE of the 8 rovers they sent to Mars over the past 30 years and instead just send it to the moon instead. They could remote it in near realtime and give us 4k video of Earth rotating around its axis in never before seen footage. I wonder why they won't do that....

Kinda boring to watch unless you speed it up. The Earth rotates "half" as fast as the hour hand on a clock. Watching paint dry is more exciting.

I always will say Apollo no matter how dangerous was way cooler. The way that they decided to go to the moon in just 3 days using a more powerful rocket and orbiting with men after just a few missions on an Apollo 8. Now it will take 2 weeks just to do a flyby and with a less powerful CSM, I don’t care how inclusive it is it just isn’t as exciting knowing we’re going for a downgrade

It’s such a tragedy that we always have billions and billions to spend on our wars and the wars of others, but not for space. Such a collassal, tragic waste. If we took all the money we paid to weapons contractors over the past 10 years and had given it to NASA, there would be a human outpost on Mars right now.

12:45 That door won't be open much longer, ULA is expected to get rid of the Delta IV tooling once the final Delta IVH mission launches in the coming months. The supplier base has been shut down for at least a year at this point, so ordering more ICPS would require standing that up again, which is quite expensive, and that money is not in NASA's current exploration budget. Unless the agency reverses their current policy in the immediate future and asks for additional ICPS money, then the option is pretty much dead. When NSF's Phillip Sloss asked about this a couple of months back the response he got was: “Although the contract with Boeing and their major subcontractor United Launch Alliance for the first three interim cryogenic propulsion stages provide the option for NASA to procure a fourth interim cryogenic propulsion stage, the agency is not pursuing purchasing hardware for a fourth flight of the SLS Block 1 configuration.” When Jim Free was again asked about this less than a month ago at NAC HEO he said they are no longer able to procure any more ICPS and they are pretty much locked in with EUS for Artemis 4. This contradicts Tory Bruno's statement that you showed but probably describes what the agency is planning (or not planning in this case) internally.

One thing I take from Artemis I was that I was mesmerized by seeing the earth from the perspective of the moon and knowing that everything that we know, all our history, and our faiths is all on our blue sphere and that someone can cover up our planet with their thumb, showing that we are minute compared to the cosmos and we need to take care of our planet for future generations.

While I don't yet have any faith in Blue Origin (and still not all too confident in Starship either... seriously, it needs several additional launches to refuel it just to get out of low Earth Orbit!), we also have to remember that Grumman was lampooned as well while it was struggling, delayed, and over-budget on the original Lunar Module, until finally it worked. I have no doubt this lander will be delayed as well, more likely to 2030, but... from a design standpoint, I'm far more optimistic with this than SpaceX's desperate attempt to appear sleek and cool.
